Kids love Lego and it is one of the most popular presents to give a child at Christmas, this year is no exception. There have been a heap of great sets out this year so we take the guess work out of deciding which set to give, whether your child is a long-time Lego fan or is new to the toys.Best Lego City Sets Like most years there have been some great Lego City sets released in 2010.Fan favourites include the new Power Functions train sets, the new Airport (3182) and the Fan's Choice for 2010, the Public Transportation set (8404).Not surprisingly all three deal with vehicles which are always popular with both kids and adult Lego fans.Smaller sets that drew a lot of attention within the City theme include the City Delivery Truck (3221), Helicopter and Limousine (3222) and the Pig Farm and Tractor (7684) set.Best Star Wars Lego Sets Always popular with fans, the Star Wars theme had a number of highlights this year. The most notable of which was the latest release of Boba Fett's Slave 1 (8097) and the new AT-AT (8219).It is safe to say however that one of the most popular Star Wars Lego sets for 2010 is yet to be released, with the Ultimate Collector Series Imperial Shuttle (10212) on target for a November release.Lego Castle Sets The Lego Castle theme was renamed "Kingdoms" this year and came with a new look.Highlights with fans included the new King's Castle (7946) and Outpost Attack (7948) in the larger sized sets while smaller hits were Knight's Showdown (7950) and Prison Carriage Rescue (7949).Harry Potter Lego Sets No list of the best Lego releases for the year would be complete without mentioning the upcoming Harry Potter Lego releases, due out in November to coincide with the release of the penultimate Harry Potter movie. There will be some very popular sets in this theme and will be worth checking out if you know anyone who is a fan. With news of new 2011 sets being slowly released we can be assured that Lego is here to stay and will bring smiles to many faces come Christmas morning.

My two youngest sons absolutely love this castle. They are 5 and 7 years old and both of them say this is the best Lego toy they have ever owned. My 15 year old who lent a hand during the build also thinks it is a pretty cool castle too.Ok, now time for the disclaimer. This toy has 933 pieces, many of them small. It is rated for 7-14 year old kids. In my opinion if you are getting it for a 7 or 8 year old and they are not advanced (I know, my kids and your kids are very advanced, but I am speaking to those other parents now) you may want to plan on spending some time on the floor putting this castle together with the kids. This castle was built over a 5 hour period. The majority of it was completed by my 5 and 7 year olds. Max, the 5 year old did most of the searching for pieces and Jake, the 7 year old did most of the assembly. Mom stepped in for a few of the tough parts, David, my 15 year old lent a hand, and good ole Dad (me) lent the least amount of... My 11 year-old LEGO fan son started working on this the moment he came home from school yesterday. He is just now done with the set.His friend Jaxon came over today and they both worked on it and had a blast. The consensus is, "This is such a great set. It has really awesome mini figs." And it does. It comes with eight, very detailed (LEGO style) figures. There are catapults and lots of other really cool working parts. There's even a rat for the dungeons. Visit our pictures in customer images to see some of the details in this set. "It is so worth the money. It has a drawbridge that goes up and down and a gate too. The white horse can be a unicorn with the right armor. You can launch stuff from the towers. And you can have epic battles with the mini figs. The dragon knight is just plain awesome." "This castle set is by far the best." It has been a big hit for two LEGO fans that usually like to create their... The LEGO "Kindoms King's Castle" is a very cool set that has provided us hours of fun, both in building the castle and in defending it from the evil Dragon Knight and minions! The age range is listed as "7 - 14", but kids in the lower ranges of that will definitely need adult help as this is a bit of complex build. This is a large set (933 pieces) and it took us just over 3 1/2 hours to complete it.That being said, once it is built even the youngest will get a kick out playing with the cool working catapults, working drawbridge, and LEGO characters (including The King, his 4 soldiers, a horse\unicorn, The Dragon Knight, and his 2 soldiers). I hate to admit it, but both my wife and I really enjoyed lobbing the round catapult blocks at the castle and trying to knock over the little soldiers! It should be noted that this set also does take up a good bit of space and needs some additional room for the catapults to work. There are also quite a few small loose pieces... Read more |
